PORTABELLA (Agaricus bisporus)

Portabella mushrooms are large brown-capped gilled mushrooms with a very short stem. Originally native to the fields and grasslands of Europe and North America, they can be found in the wild following rain from late spring through to autumn.

Revered by vegetarians and chefs alike for their dense, aromatic, and meaty cap, they are excellent for grilling and cooking whole as a meat replacement. In most applications, we recommend scooping out the black gills, but this is optional depending on preference.

Flavor Profile: Meaty, savory, hearty, earthy, chewy texture

Cooking Methods: Grilled, sautéed, stir-fried, roasted

Fun Fact: The portabella and its immature forms (Baby Bella, White Button) are the most cultivated and consumed mushrooms in the world. They offer a rich nutrition profile, providing protective antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, immune support, and anti-cancer benefits when consumed regularly.
